Prostate Massage and Prostate Orgasms: What Men Should Know

Many of the men I work with come to their first session not knowing exactly where the prostate is, or how it is reached. Alongside the uncertainty, there is often shame or a deep reservation about this part of the body.

In my understanding, that shame is learned. Patriarchal conditioning limits men in many ways, and one of them is the freedom to fully own and enjoy their bodies. The body is the one thing that is truly yours for your whole life. Every part of it deserves to be known.

Over the years of offering tantric bodywork to hundreds of men, I have introduced many of them to receiving prostate touch. This is what I have learned about it.

What the Prostate Is

The prostate is a gland about the size of a walnut. It sits just below the bladder, in front of the rectum, and produces part of the fluid that makes up semen. Because of where it sits, it can be reached internally through the anus, which means that internal prostate massage uses a finger or an appropriate toy.

How It Is Approached in Session

Prostate massage never happens out of the blue. In tantric bodywork, it is part of a long, full-body session, given with presence, devotion and a safe, loving container. The body and mind are prepared first. The pace is slow, communication is open, and the receiver can pause or stop at any moment.

This preparation matters as much as the touch itself. A body that feels safe can soften, and a body that can soften is able to receive.

Physical Benefits

Prostate massage has a long history in the care of chronic prostatitis. Some urologists still see it as a useful part of a broader plan for chronic prostatitis and pelvic discomfort, and I work with a few who refer clients to me. The research is mixed, so I see it as a support to medical care, never a replacement for it. It should not be done during an acute infection.

Many men also describe the physical effects they notice: deeper relaxation of the pelvic floor, more awareness of an area they rarely feel, and a new kind of pleasure.

Emotional and Somatic Benefits

In my experience, a lot of emotion is stored in this part of the body, especially shame and guilt. When touch is slow and safe, those feelings can begin to surface and move. Some men feel emotion rise, others feel a spaciousness they did not expect. Either way, the body often feels lighter afterwards.

Prostate Orgasms

One of the most interesting parts of this work is the possibility of prostate orgasms. Many men can learn to experience them, as long as there are no underlying medical issues. How long it takes is very personal. For some, it happens in the first session, for others it unfolds over several.

The prostate and the penis are connected to different bundles of nerves, so the experience is different. Many men describe prostate orgasms as full-body, deeper and more spacious than penile orgasms, and some describe a mystical quality to them. When they are not combined with ejaculation, some men experience orgasm in waves that repeat, one after another. Penile orgasms can be very pleasurable too, and neither one replaces the other.

The Tantric View

In tantric understanding, the prostate is a source of sexual energy and kundalini. When this area opens and the energy begins to move, many men feel it circulating through the whole body, rather than staying local to the genitals. This is a traditional perspective rather than a clinical one, and it matches what many men describe feeling.

Being Held, Being Received

There is another benefit that I find just as meaningful. Most men have very little space in life to receive, to be held and to be vulnerable. Prostate massage in a safe container offers exactly that. It brings men into deeper connection with themselves and with their bodies, often with a sense of relief.

Before You Begin

If you have prostate or rectal symptoms, a history of prostate infection, or any medical concern, please speak with your doctor first. Prostate massage is not suitable for everyone, and a responsible practitioner will ask about your health before starting.
